1. What kind of characters are allowed?
This is a very permissive game and pretty open about allowable characters. Allowed characters include canon characters, OCs, AUs, CRAUs, duplicates, fandom OCs of all kinds. However, see
Rule 4. In short, it's suggested to discuss with castmates before you app.
2. How does the in-game site work?
It works somewhat like Dreamwidth does. You can post videos, audio, text, whatever. Each post can be replied to and each reply can be replied to and threads exist much like in Dreamwidth. Private message functionality exists but is prone to failure at hilarious times (i.e. when you decide it'd be funny). Each character has an inbox. There are mood and music and similar fields the character optionally can use. Tags also exist (just specify in the post what made-up tags you're using).
An example post might look like this:
Oh gods my world sucks there're all those zombies!! blah blah pretend this is a longer example post blah blah
Mood: Upset
Music: something about beating up zombies
Tags: zombies suck, why is my world like this, what the fuck
Something like that. You can also use Dreamwidth's built-in mood/location/music fields (examples are attached to this FAQ), but the built-in tags field is reserved solely for character names and things like that so note inside the post any tags your character is using instead of using Dreamwidth's tag functionality.
3. What about powers?
There are no power nerfs whatsoever. However, be mindful (as per rule 3 about not doing things to others' characters without asking). This also applies for blowing up worlds and the like. Maybe don't blow up characters' worlds. Maybe.
Gaining new abilities and stuff is possible where it makes sense, most likely with time and training. Just try not to be an ability katamari okay?
4. But wait my character doesn't have a computer?
A way to access Badgernet will appear for your character. It could be a magical book or scroll, a rock that displays the site, a interactive holograph, or even an anachronistic computer or phone. Whatever works best for your character. The site is persistent and likes people posting on it.
5. But what if my character doesn't want to post?
Like I said, Badgernet is persistent and likes people posting on it. It will just keep appearing until your character posts then let up for a while.
6. Accidental posts?
Yeah you can do posts where the character accidentally posts video or something like that. I encourage players to get creative and think of all kinds of ways to post (maybe they could intentionally live stream canon events as they happen or something else fun) but this tool is there for when it's the best fit for your character at the time.
7. Worldhopping?
Oh, yeah, characters with interdimensional travel abilities absolutely can use them and it'll be pretty easy to make worldhopping devices and other methods of acquiring the capability. Almost like something is facilitating it. I basically expect the ability to start out rare as the game opens then proliferate quickly once characters figure out how to proliferate it.
Do make sure players are okay with it, though if their character is all "Sure, come over!" the player is probably okay with it unless they tell you otherwise. Also discuss any changes that might happen as a result of your visit.
8. Depictions of canonical events?
It's possible to broadcast canonical stuff happening as they happen. However, for accessibility reasons this should be described instead of or in addition to just linking a video from your canon or something. Many will thank you, including this deaf head mod.
9. What happens when my character dies?
By default, what would canonically happen is what happens. However, there're optional alternatives you can choose! You can choose to have them end up in the wrong afterlife, whether it be one in the world of another player character (like if there's a Hades game character in the game, your character might end up in that Underworld) or this 'default' setting: a foggy place where a person in a cloak and hood throws up a furor about you being in the wrong place and charges you whatever money or valuable thing you have on you before sending you back to life.
10. What about events?
Game events are generally called 'hiccups', as in the site will apologize for the hiccup once it's over. They will mostly be silly or crack stuff like body swapping, the characters thinking they're actors for themselves, animals being attracted to your character like a Disney Princess, stuff like that. Generally the effects of events will be very temporary.
11. This site kinda sounds sentient?
Oh yeah, there will even be very occasional opportunities to interact with the site itself. This is just me trying something a little different from Drama Drama Duck.
12. Will there be metaplot then?
Not much, just the barest amount. Mostly just opportunities to find out more about the site.
13. Content rules?
In general, cut for gory, potentially triggering, or sexual content. For sexual stuff, characters should be at least 18, otherwise it will have to be handwaved (and try not to be weird even about the things you handwave).
14. The passage of time?
Time in different characters' worlds can pass at different rates both relative to the network and to each other, so you can play around with that some if you want. Likewise, to canon update, you can just make a post set at the later canon point.
15. Age stuff?
Players should be at least 18. This is mostly for safety's sake. Characters can be any age, though generally they should be capable of communicating and making decisions for themselves.
16. Shared worlds?
Characters from the same canon can share the same world and experience the same potentially altered events or be in separate versions of their world. Also there were a number of cases in the original Drama Drama Duck where characters from one canon moved to another canon's world and that will absolutely be allowed in this game.
17. NPCing canonmates?
Our policy on playing canonmates of your character as NPCs sums up to a simple guideline: do what you gotta do. Basically if the situation calls for it, go ahead. In general non-player characters won't see the network unless your character explicitly shows it to them and even then they won't be able to use it.
18. Languages and accessibility?
A clarification on the automatic translation feature: any language your character can perceive, they will understand. For example, sign language can be understood by anyone who sees it, and scent-based languages also are understood if you can smell it. And so on. This applies to in-person interactions too, not just posts.
For those lacking the appropriate senses or with other issues, BadgerNet has a full set of accessibility features including automatic transcripts for posts in languages your character can't perceive (like audio posts for deaf people or scent-based languages for people without the necessary sense of smell), automatic video captioning (including sound effects) for deaf people, text-to-speech and speech-to-text and basically anything-to-anything capabilities. Large text modes and the like are also available. Basically if there's an accessibility feature, BadgerNet has it. BadgerNet believes in facilitating communication and will provide whatever is necessary for that.
